What has happened to Thalappavu?

The Madhupal-directed Prithviraj-starrer Thalappavu, which had been in the news for quite some time hasn't yet made it to the theatres, and is not heard of much these days.

The film, shoot for which was almost finished, has Prithviraj donning the role of a naxalite, and features Lal too in a key role. Scripted by Babu Janardhanan, the film focuses on the relationship between a naxalite youth and a policeman and spans a long period of time in the history of Kerala. Along with the personal elements, the film makes political, historical and cultural references and comments.

But it is quite a surprise to see that this film has not got released yet, in spite of the fact that Prithviraj is quite popular these days in Malayalam as well as Tamil, and has his hands quite full of films. Maybe it was because the film was thought to be an offbeat one that no one was daring to take it up for distribution. Anyhow the latest news is that Lal's Lal Release has taken it up and that the film is set for release by the end of the month. It should be remembered that Lal is a very lucky producer and distributor, and let's hope that his luck proves good for Thalappavu too.
