Director Venugopan passes away

Director Venugopan, who became popular with the Jayaram-starrer ‘Sharjah To Sharjah,’ died on Friday. He was 67.

Hailing from Cherthala in Alappuzha, Venugopan had been an assistant director in the films of noted writer and filmmaker the late P Padmarajan for almost 10 years. Venugopan made his debut as director in 1997 with the film ‘Kusruthi Kuruppu,’ starring Jayaram and Meena in lead roles.

His other films include ‘Choonda’, ‘Swarnam’, ‘Reporter’, and ‘Sarvopari Palakkaran’. Venugopan is survived by wife Latha Venu and children Lakshmi and Vishnu Gopan. Funeral will be held on the premise of his house at Kadakkarappalli (7th Ward) in Cherthala today at 8.30 pm.
