What exactly is in the mind of Shaji .N.Karun?

What exactly is in the mind of Shaji N. Karun? For quite some time, this accomplished filmmaker who directed films like Piravi, Swaham, Vaanaprastham, Nishaad (Hindi) and the docu-fiction AKG has been announcing film after film, but not one of them seems to have taken off.

It was about three years ago that Shaji had announced the adaptation of T. Padmanabhan's well-acclaimed short story Kadal as Gaatha, a film featuring Mohanlal and Jaya Bachchan in the cast. And then he announced a biographical movie on the Royal painter Raja Ravi Varma, which, recent reports say, is to be made with Kay Kay Menon in the lead role. And shortly after the announcement of Raja Ravi Varma, he did AKG in a very short period of time and got it released as part of a package along with Thakarachenda, directed by Avira Rebecca.

And now, if reports are to be believed, this cinematographer-director and former Chairman of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy is all set to make a film with none other than Mammootty in the lead role. The film, titled Kutti Shrank, will be about a mariner and will be shot in various places across the state of Kerala, including Kochi, Kollam, Kodungalloor. It is also heard that Shaji N. Karun plans to start the film somewhere in the first half of 2008. Well, it has become almost impossible to guess what exactly is going on in the mind of this accomplished filmmaker and which film he is going to start first. Let's just wait and see!
