Thalappavu : Debut Directorial venture from Madupal

Oct 30, 2007 NR

Thalappavu, the debut directorial venture by Madhupal (who is a popular actor himself) has started rolling in Kothamangalam, from where it is likely to shift to Changanassery and then to Alappuzha. The film which has Prithviraj, Lal and Bollywood actor Atul Kulkarni playing key roles, is based on a real incident - the killing of the naxalite Verghese in the 1970's, and subsequent confession by Police Constable Ramachandran Nair of his involvement in the incident, which officially was off-the-record.

Madhupal and Scenarist Babu Janardhanan (who had earlier done the script for films like Vasthavam, Heartbeats etc) have striven to rework the story so as to suit cinematic requirements. While Prithviraj dons the role of a naxalite named Joseph, Lal (sans his trademark beard) becomes a Police Constable named Ravindran Pillai, and Atul Kulkarni becomes Krishnadeva Saiver, a crooked and selfish landlord.

Thalappavu also has in the cast Dhanya Mary, Jagathy Sreekumar, Meera Krishna, Geetha Vijayan, Sreejith Ravi, Manuraj, Sudheer J. Nair, E.A. Rajendran etc. Alagappan does the cinematography for the film, which also features lyrics by ONV Kurup, music by Alex Paul, editing by Don Max and Art Direction by Saburam. Reported to be a film with commercial elements, Thalappavu is likely to be released in January.
