Sivan's film sweeps Kerala Film Critics awards

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 2 (IANS) National Award winning director Santosh Sivan's latest Malayalam film, "Ananthabhadram", Thursday bagged major awards given away by the Kerala Film Critics Association.

It was adjudged the best film and also fetched the best director honour for Sivan.

Manoj K. Jayan who played a stellar role in the same film and upcoming superstar Dileep for his role in "Chandupottu" were adjudged jointly as the best actor.

The awards were announced here by association general secretary Manarakyam Baby.

Veteran superstar Mohanlal was declared the most popular actor for his roles in "Naran" and "Thanmatra" while thespian Thilakan was given the prestigious Chalachithra Ratna award for his contribution to Malayalam films.

Kavya Madhavan was declared the best actress for her roles in "Ananthabhadram" and "Sheelabathi".

Director-turned-actor Lal was the second best actor for his performance in "Thommanum Makualam" and "Bunglavil Oudha" while Shobha Mohan was adjudged the second best actress for her performance in "Chandupottu".

M.G. Sreekumar was declared the best male playback singer for his songs in "Bhaliyam" and "Mayookam" while Sujatha was honoured as the best female playback singer for "Paranja Pheerath Vishesagal".

The awards are the oldest and most prestigious in the Malayalam film industry and from this year they will be known as the Atlas Film Critics Awards.

"Middle East-based Atlas Jewellery is sponsoring the entire prize money of Rs.325,000 and from this year onwards they would be known as the Atlas Film Critics Awards.

The awards would be given away here April 16," said Baby.
