Padma Shri award has come at the right time: Priyadarsan
Jan 26, 2012 IANS"I am really elated because I think it has come at the right time," Priyadarsan told IANS over phone from Chennai.
The 54-year-old veteran's film career spans close to three decades and 86 films in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil and Telegu.
"Whenever I get some recognition, the first thought that comes through my mind is - 'Am I eligible for it?'."
"I never judge myself where I stand. This Padma award has come after I have worked hard all these years and, hence I feel all the more happy that one's hard work is appreciated," he added.
He said he was happy this time as last year too a film director from Kerala was tipped to be honoured, but his name did not figure in the final list.
Priyadarsan is currently the chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, the body that works for the overall upliftment of the Malayalam film industry besides holding the famed International Film Festival of Kerala.
"I am more than happy because my father, who lives in Thiruvananthapuram, would be the happiest person when he hears that his son has got a Padma award. My wife (former actress Lissy) is not well and she is yet to know of my award," he added.
His latest blockbuster Malayalam comedy flick "Arabyium, Ottakavum P.Madhavan Nairum", where he teams up with superstar Mohanlal, is now running to packed houses across the state.
"This award will also give my next release 'Tezz', scheduled for April 27, a good initial boost," he said.
His Bollywood flicks include "Hera Pheri", Hulchul", "Garam Masala" and "Bhagam Bhag".
Priyadarsan has given Malayalam hits like "Boeing Boeing", "Thalavattam" and "Vellanakalude Nadu".
