Mohanlal turns eighty in Paradesi

Feb 5, 2007 NR

Look out for Mohanlal soon in a totally new get-up, as an eighty year old man in the P.T. Kunjumohammed-directed Paradesi. Scripted by the director himself, Paradesi tells the story of a man named Valiyakaththu Moosa, who had been in Pakistan for some time prior to the Partition. When he returns to India, post-Partition, he finds himself neither here nor there. He is neither an Indian citizen and nor is he a Pakistani. The predicament of this character is etched out in the film, directed by P.T. Kunjumohammed, whose other films include Magrib and Gershome.

Paradesi portrays Valiyakaththu Moosa in different stages of his life, ranging from his 30's to his 80's. It was recently in Rajasthan that P.T. Kunjumohammed and team did the last phase of shooting for the film with Mohanlal in the get-up of eighty-year old Moosa. The actor had to spend four hours every day before the make-up man Pattanam Rasheed to get himself transformed into the 80 year old man. And Rasheed, who was the man who made up Mohanlal as the aged peasant in Udayon, has taken special care that the mood of the make-up suits the total atmosphere at the various stages in the film. This offbeat film is almost ready for release
