Jan 26, 2007 IANSHis recent releases "Karutha Pakshikal", "Palunku" and "Kaiyoppu" all take up social issues.
"In an effort to promote such films I feel remuneration can take a back seat. I feel happy when the message goes out through a film," Mammootty told reporters here late Wednesday.
His "Kaiyoppu", a 97-minute movie by Renjith, received excellent reviews. He plays a struggling writer suffering from a writer's block in the film for which he did not take any money. The versatile actor has now decided to sign up another film "Kathaparayumbol", and has decided to forgo money for this too.
"Kathaparayumbol" is being produced by veteran film stars Sreenivasan and Mukesh.
"We went to his home and discussed the project and Mammootty instantly agreed to work in it. When we tried to discuss his remuneration, he said, 'Don't worry, I will take money only if it is going to bring in the audience'," Sreenivasan, who has written the story, script and dialogues of the movie, said here.
Giving an outline of the film, Sreenivasan, who is playing an important role in it, said the film, set in the hilly districts, is about two friends.
"Yes, the film is unique and its one major attraction is the return of two-time National Award winning actress Shobhana to Malayalam films," said Sreenivasan.
Mammootty said he was very excited about the film.
"It revolves around my character. The central theme of the film is the re-unification of two friends - one played by me, and the other by Sreenivasan. He plays a barber in the movie. It will also have humour," said Mammootty.
Veteran comedians Jagathy Sreekumar and Innocent will also play a crucial role in the film. Debutant director Mohan will direct the film.
Shooting is to begin in April and it is slated for release in the third quarter of 2007.
