Malayalam films still dominated by superstars: K. Madhu
Sep 10, 2006 IANS"The question of replacing them at the moment does not arise because they are being accepted by the audience. Moreover, not long ago, the trio were joined by Jayaram and Dileep," Madhu told reporters here Saturday after the screening of his latest film "Pathaka" starring Gopi.
Both Mammootty and Mohanlal entered the industry almost simultaneously in the early 1980's and since then they have been leading the industry here.
Suresh Gopi joined them in the 'superstars' category in the late 80's itself. While both Mammootty and Mohanlal have completed 500 films, Gopi is yet to achieve that.
Madhu is best known for his three successful sequels to "CBI Diary Kurripu", released way back in the late 1980's, and he is now planning the fourth one.
"I am now planning the next in the series of 'CBI Diary Kurripu' and Mammootty who played the CBI sleuth in the four previous films will don the role of the CBI cop yet again. This is slated for early next year," said Madhu.
He added: "I decided to go in for Mammootty because he has been hugely popular and has created an image for himself as a successful CBI sleuth. Youths who watched my last sequel, watched the first 'CBI Dairy Kurripu' sitting in the lap of their parents. Times have changed but the audience still wants more films of this genre."
