Atheetham to be released in Thrissur Sree only

Atheetham (subtitled 'Beyond the Mind'), the film produced by Sonnet Cinema and directed by debutante Devan Nair, is slated to be released on September 21st at a single theatre, the Sree theatre in Thrissur, Devan Nair's hometown. The makers have gone to the extent of taking the theatre on rent for a week and releasing the film.

Sources related to the film have been heard stating that they intend to continue with the showing of the film in other centres too in the coming weeks, on the same lines, i.e., by taking theatres on rent. It should be remembered that some time earlier director Jayaraj had made a similar kind of release for his film Albhutham at the Kalabhavan theatre and then too it was announced that the film would be shown at other centres as well, which however didn't materialize.

The reasons are obvious. Taking a theatre on rent for a week or for three days at least wouldn't be a lucrative thing to do as our people are rather reluctant to see and encourage such kinds of films and most of those who wish to see these films would prefer to catch them at the film festivals, where they could see the film free of cost. Atheetham is a sort of spiritual journey, with Rahul Eeswar, Ramya Nambeeshan, Dattatreya, Sreeraman, Manikantan etc in key roles.
