Kochi, June 11 (IANS) The plush home of popular Malayalam film actor Jayasurya near here violates building rules, said Kochi Municipal Corporation mayor Tony Chammany.

Chammany spoke in reaction to a TV channel's news report Wednesday that despite the corporation asking the actor to demolish the private boat jetty that he has built at his home, no action has been taken.

"Jayasurya, given the position he holds in the society should be actually setting examples to others. But in this case, it has not happened and action would be taken against our officials who have not taken action against the violation of rules," said Chammany to the TV channel.

The actor's home overlooks a backwater and he has built a private boat jetty and a wall, which according to activist Gireesh Babu is in gross violation of building rules.

"It was last year in August that I had filed a complaint against this violation to the Kochi corporation. He (Jayasurya) has violated the Coastal Regulation Zone rules, but no action for demolition has been taken by the corporation," said Babu.

The 35-year-old actor who hails from Kochi, began his film career in 2001. He is an established name in the industry and by now has acted in more than 65 films in Malayalam and has also acted in a few Tamil and Telugu films, besides having sung songs.

His popular films include "Swapnakkoodu", "Pulival", "Kalyanam", "Chathikkatha", "Classmates", "Trivandrum Lodge" and "Husbands in Goa" to name a few.
