Shyamam Malayalam Movie

Thirumangalath Tharavad was once the epitome of fame and wealth in Thrikkatukara village. It all stands lost now as the family is stamped outcasts by the society. Only 4 people inhabit the house now: Lakshmi, her 2 children and their grandmother (KPAC Lalitha). Lakshmi's father-in-law Vishnu Namboothiri, was a renowned Kathakali artist who has expired. Now his wife is rejected the simple joy of a Kathakali performance by the society.

Mahendran is the son of Vishnu Namboothiri and a music maestro. Lakshmi is a village girl who fell in love with Mahendran and his music. After her father's death she leaves for Mumbai in search for a job. Years later she returns home, beset with an incurable disease. She meets Mahendran, marries him and has two children. Mahendran falls victim of a dreaded incurable disease and dies with the birth of his second child Karthika. News spreads like wild fire of Mahendran's disease and the whole family is treated as outcasts by the village. With her husband gone, the burden of the house falls on Lakshmi who takes up a job in a coir factory. But the village soon forces her to give up her job. The temple food offering becomes their only way of sustenance.

Shyamam is the maiden venture of director Shrivallabhan who was an assistant to director Sharvi, and he tries to portray a touching story of a family trying to grapple with fate and a cruel society. KPAC Lalitha plays a meaty role as the widow of Vishnu Namboothiri. Football player IM Vijayan also stars in the film.
