Mahat misses college life, enjoyed doing 'Backbench Student'
Feb 27, 2013 IANS"Not every day one gets to revisit college, but I was lucky to shoot a good portion of my film in a college. I remember telling my director (Madhura Sreedhar) that I don't mind even taking up some short course because I thoroughly enjoyed the experience," Mahat told IANS.
What does he misses the most about college life?
"I definitely miss all the fun and frolic with friends. In fact, the role I play is more or less a reflection of my college days," he said.
"Backbench Student" also features Pia Bajpai and Archana Kavi in the lead.
"The film revolves around the protagonist who despite being a failure in college, succeeds in life. This forms the rest of the story. We've attempted to harp on the importance of nurturing one's talent, in which people seldom believe in," he said.
The film, which was completed in 50 days, was predominantly shot in Vizag. M.V.K. Reddy has produced "Backbench Student", which is coming out March 15.
One of the highlights of the film is the song "Jagada Jagada" sung by Tamil actor Simbu. It is a rendition of two old classic numbers by Ilayaraja.
Mahat was recently cast as Vijay's brother in upcoming Tamil film "Jilla". He says his role is not limited in the film.
"My role in the film is not limited. Vijay and I share so many scenes together. In fact, I will be seen in three songs with him as well. Sharing screen space with him will definitely boost my career," he said.
He also has another untitled Tamil film in the offing.
