Makers of 'Ramanujan' shoot in genius' house
Jul 6, 2013 IANS"The house is now being taken care of by the government. It has been turned into a museum. We wanted to give the audience a personal touch and therefore managed to get permission and shoot a few scenes in the house where once Ramanujan lived," the film's director Gnana Rajasekaran told IANS.
"We have also shot a few shots in a temple here which Ramanujan's mother used to frequent," he said.
Suhasini Maniratnam plays Ramanujan's mother in the film, which will feature debutant Abhinay, grandson of veteran Tamil actor Gemini Ganeshan, in the role of Ramanujan.
The film also features Bhama and British actor Kevin McGowan in important roles.
Known for helming biopics such as "Bharati" and "Periyar", National-award winning director Rajasekaran feels India is still not open to the idea of such films.
"You will seldom receive a warm reception for a biopic in India because audiences only look for entertainment in films nowadays. You still can't expect a biopic to overtake a commercial film at the box-office," he said.
"Ramanujan" is an Indo-British collaboration, and it is being made by Camphor Cinema, an independent film production company.
The film will track the journey of the ace mathematician from Kumbakonam to Cambridge. It is being simultaneously shot in Tamil and English.
