Illaiyaraaja chosen for Sangeet Nataka academy award

Music maestro Illaiyaraaja has been selected for Sangeet Nataka academy awards. He has been chosen to receive the award for 2012 under the creative and experimental category. He is among the 9 artistes who will be receiving the award under the music category. TH Vinayakram, Grammy Award winning percussionist and playwright Ratan Thiyan are also receiving the fellowship.
Illaiyaraaja is a recipient of Padma Bhushan award in the year 2010. He has won three National Awards for music direction and one National Award for best background score.
He has worked in more than 950 films and scored over 4500 songs so far.
