'Star Trek 3' slated for July 2016 release date

Paramount has announced that the much-awaited Star Trek 3 will arrive in theaters only on July 8 2016, a year that would mark the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek TV series.

Justin Lin, director of several key entries in The Fast and The Furious franchise, has officially been signed on to direct the third film in the rebooted Star Trek film series.

J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek and its sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, but he’ll only be involved in a producer capacity on the third film.

Writer Roberto Orci was previously slated to direct, but instead he'll serve as a writer and producer on the three-quel, which is slated for a 2016 release.
