Mumbai, Aug 24 (IANS) The Indian film fraternity took to social networking platforms with full force to vent their anger against the recent gang-rape in Mumbai, but filmmaker Karan Johar says the lack of a solution renders these words meaningless.

"I felt so silly even reacting, writing 'I am disgusted', 'I am appalled' because I feel it's so helpless. These are just words, they are empty," the 41-year-old said here Friday at a press conference of the film "The Lunchbox".

"But what really can we do but react? I think sometimes the words that we write feel empty. Like what I tweeted, it was an organic reaction, but I felt so silly writing those words because they really meant nothing," he added.

Karan stated such incidents are an epidemic and needed to be stopped.

"It's an epidemic and it's not an epidemic you want to spread, you need to stop it. If someone gave me a solution, I would be standing in the front row trying to solve it," Karan said.

A woman photojournalist was raped by five men in the abandoned Shakti Mills compound near Mahalaxmi railway station where she on an assignment along with a male colleague.
