Oscars 2014: 'The Great Gatsby' gets best costume

Los Angeles, March 3 (IANS) Catherine Martin won her first Academy Award for costume design for her work in "The Great Gatsby", while Adruitha Lee and Robin Mathews clinched the trophy of best hair and make-up for "Dallas Buyers Club" at the Oscars ceremony here Sunday.


Martin, who has been nominated for an Oscar for a total of six times, was overwhelmed on receiving the award, for which she competed against Michael Wilkinson ("American Hustle"), William Chang Suk Ping ("The Grandmaster"), Michael O'Connor ("The Invisible Woman") and Patricia Norros ("12 Years a Slave").


For Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby", she helped to recreate the Jazz age.


In the hair and make-up category, Lee and Mathews were lauded for their work on the actors' look in "Dallas Buyers Club", about an HIV-positive man, his unexpected bond with gay men also battling the illness, and his involvement in illicit trade of a drug which slows down the virus' effect.


This was the first ever nomination for the duo. They were competing against Stephen Prouty ("Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa") and Joel Harlow and Gloria Pasqua-Casny ("The Lone Ranger").
