The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) will halt production and post-production of Tamil movies from March 16 after no compromise was reached between TFPC and digital service providers, such as Qube and other players, over the ‘Virtual Print Fee’.

This was announced through a press note. The announcement comes at a time when the occupancy in movie theatres, especially single-screen halls, has reduced considerably. TFPC president Vishal said that the decision was taken because no agreement could be reached between the two sides.

A statement from TFPC said, “Since March 1, we have not been releasing movies. As we couldn’t reach an agreement with companies such as Qube and other issues remain, we are going to halt production and post-production work of all movies from March 16.” The statement also said that TFPC had the support of the Film Employees Federation of South India. With the digital service providers stating that they will not be able to reduce their VPF more than what they have already offered, the producers have held their ground.
