Trailer of 'Thaandavam' released

Aug 3, 2012 PGV

The trailer of ‘Thaandavam’ featuring Vikram, Jagapathi Babu, Anushka and Amy Jackson, has been released in Chennai. Directed by Vijay, it is produced by UTV. The film will hit the screens sometime next month.

Talking to reporters at the function, Vikram said he plays two roles, one is that of police intelligence officer and the second that of a blindman.

He played a blind singer in ‘Kaasi’, which was released in 2001. In ‘Thaandavam’, he depicts the character of a visually challenged person whose mobility is made easy by human echolocation, which provides auditory clues. By tapping canes and making clicking noises, the blind person can interpret the sound waves reflected by nearby objects and judge the location and size of the objects.

Vikram said Daniel Kish, an American who is internationally renowned expert of human echolocation, has trained him. Cinematographer Nirav Shah had arranged for the meeting between Vikram and Kitsch. Kitsch became blind when he was just one year old and he developed the method of human echolocation to be able to walk, sense the objects around him and even ride a bicycle.

“It was a privilege for us to have Kitsch train me for this role,” Vikram said.

He said Kitsch would give a demonstration/presentation on echolocation at the film release function. He too has acted in the film.

When asked pointedly whether he has played the role of blindman in ’Thandavam’ differently from the role he did in ‘Kaasi’, Vikram said,”Well, this is very different in nature. If a character similar to what I have done earlier comes along, I ensure that it is different. For instance, if I am offered a cop character, I will ensure that it is very different from ‘Saamy’. I think I can play the role of a blind person at least five times, and do it differently each time.”

It is “suspense” whether there is a scene showing Vikram kissing Amy Jackson, Vikram replied to a question.

Director Vijay, Amy Jackson, music director G.V. Prakash Kumar, Na. Muthukumar and Dhananjayan of UTV were present.
