Shankar, who directed the Rajinikanth-starrer "Sivaji: The Boss", slated for release on June 15, attended the film festival at Cannes in France when "Veyil" produced by him was screened at the festival on May 19.

Vasantha Balan, who directed "Veyil" and Pasupathi were also present along with Shankar who took time off his next project "Kalluri" (College) which he is producing under the banner of S Pictures under the direction of Sakthivel.

"Veyil", "Saira" (Malayalam), "Missed Call" and "Lage Raho Munnabhai" were screened on May 19. "Karma Confessions and Holy" and "My One Sky" were screened the next day.

"Veyil" is claimed to be the first ever Tamil film to be officially screened at this festival.

Director Vasantha Balan was introduced to the large audience which included foreign delegates, distributors and film connoisseurs. On the eve of screening of the films from India, the Ministry concerned and Indian industry hosted a dinner at Majestic Hotel on the seashore which was attended among others by film-maker Mani Ratnam.

About 20 Indian film companies exhibited their films on the premises of the Le Cinema du Monde where the "Veyil" was screened.

According to reports reaching Chennai, Shankar told mediapersons in Cannes that he had come to know of the postponement of the release of "Sivaji" from May 31 to June 15 on his way to Cannes. This was a big budget film shot in different countries and there would have been some matters which required to be sorted out before releasing the film. There was no particular reason for pushing up the date of release, he said.
