Rajini against using his nametag in film titles

Rajini against using his nametag in film titles

Dec 7, 2011 PGV

Rajinikanth has requested filmmakers not to make any more films using his nametag, according to his spokesperson V.M. Sudhakar. The request comes in the wake of the growing tendency among filmmakers to use his nametag in titles in order to pull crowds.

To cite an instance, Rajesh Kannan J's debut film was titled 'Perumaan _The Rajinikanth', of course with the superstar's consent. But now the tag 'The Rajinikanth' has been removed from the title at the instance of Rajini. Sudhakar reasons that 'Peruman' means 'above all' or Almighty and calling Rajini the Almighty is inappropriate.

Kannada film producer K. Manju is making a film titled 'Rajinikantha', but he claims that apart from the title, there is nothing else with regard to the superstar in the film. He claims Rajini has given his nod after he told him what the story is about.

In 1984, the film titled 'Anbulla Rajinikanth' was made with the superstar appearing as himself. Meena as a child artiste was featured in it.
