'Paruthiveeran' wins Osian-Cinefan award
Aug 1, 2007 PVSThe film was screened at the festival held in New Delhi last month. It explores the relationship between two strong characters, a village vagabond and a girl from the respected Thevar community. They elope and die in a shocking turn of events. As the debutant hero Karthi said, "The climax is the key".
The producer, Gnanavel, feels elated while director Ameer Sultan is a sad man. Ameer told an English newspaper that he was neither aware that his film had been entered, nor was he called for the awards ceremony held on July 29 in New Delhi.
"I heard that the film had won the prestigious Osian-Cinefan award for the Best Film from my friends in the media, and not through the proper channels. I also heard that the hero of the film went to represent the film at the festival, and I wasn't even informed about the film's entry," he reportedly said.
According to the newspaper report, he was not informed even when "Paruthiveeran" was entered at the recent Cannes Festival. If he was not sidelined, he would have worked for this film to make it to the awards category.
Dismissing these matters as trivia, Ameer said, "I don't take what they do seriously. No one can suppress a film-maker's creativity. After all, this is my movie and at the end of the day, when a film wins an award, it is the creator (director) who gets appreciated. I have a lot of faith in my craft."
His aim is to take Tamil cinema to international arena. "I am working towards that, without wasting time on trivial issues like this,' Ameer said.
Meanwhile, Priyamani, who received the Best Actress award, is thrilled. The newspaper quoted her as saying that "all credit goes to director Ameer who had so much faith in me".
