Nepali Director agrees to remove objectionable scenes
Apr 23, 2008 PVSAn undertaking to this effect was given by Director V.Z. Dorai, who met M Ravi, the joint commissioner of Police (North), Chennai, on April 22 in response to the legal notice issued to him and the producer last week.
The JCP reportedly said that Director Dorai had a discussion with him and he had expressed displeasure over certain scenes in the film which portrayed policemen in bad light.
"While I have no objections with film-makers on portraying police officials in negative roles, it is highly inappropriate to show the entire police force as corrupt and inept," Ravi has been quoted as saying.
The JCP also expressed displeasure at the way TV serials and movies depicted policemen. "It is appalling to see that the police are always shown as bad guys and the local hero as the good one every time. While some policemen might fit the bill, one cannot generalize it as it does affect public opinion." He also said that the police could take legal action against those producers and directors of TV serials and movies for propagating false notions about the police. "Undoubtedly, there are legal provisions to take action against such producers," he added.
A week after the release of "Nepali", a few lengthy portions in the second half of the film have been trimmed to make it more crisp and racy, reducing the duration of the film by 20 minutes.
