'Mozhi' wins SICA best film award; Rajini best actor

It was a grand spectacle at the YMCA Grounds in Nandanam, Chennai, on May 2 (Friday where the Southern India Cinematographers Association (SICA) film awards 2006-2007 were presented.


Most honors went to super-hit "Mozhi" featuring Jothika, Prithviraj and Prakashraj which was adjudged the best film of the year 2007 by the viewers. Producer Prakash Raj received the Best Film award.


The Best Director award was received by Radha Mohan, who directed "Mozhi" in which Jothika plays a hearing impaired girl. Yuvan Shankar Raja was presented with the Best Music Director award for this film.


Rajinikanth and Priyamani won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards for their roles in "Sivaji: the Boss" and "Paruthiveeran".


Ajith and Nayanthara won the awards for their roles in "Varalaru" and "Eee" respectively for the year 2006.


The Best Director award for 2006 went to Vasantha Balan for the film "Veyil".


The Best Music Director' award was bagged by Vidyasagar for "Em Magan".


Karthik Sivakumar, who played the lead role in "Paruthiveeran", received the award for the Best Newcomer for 2007.


Awards by SICA are highly valued by film artistes. "It is they (cinematographers) who enhance our appearance and present us to the outside world," Karthi said.


Prominent among those attended the function were Sathyaraj, Parthiban, Vivek, actresses Manorama, Sandhya, music directors Viswanathan and Ramamurthy and singer S.P. Balasubramaniam.


A host of stars and technicians from all the four southern States had gathered for the glittering and fun-filled event. There were dance performances by Sunil Shetty, Namitha, Reema Sen, Vineet and Nila.
