Mohan Sharma's 'Namma Gramam' for Pongal

Mohan Sharma and M. Balamuralikrishna have received awards from the Kerala Government for the best story and best songs respectively. Sukumari (best supporting actress) and Indran Jayan (best costumes) have received national awards.
'Namma Gramam' depicts the pre-Independence history of Tamilians who migrated to Palghat in Kerala and lived there from 1938 to 1947. In those days, child marriages were common. After one such marriage a small girl becomes a widow. Her grandmother also was widowed at the young age. Having been banished from society and ill-treated, the old widow fights hard to prevent this happening to her grand-daughter. How the old woman restores the girl's self-respect and helps her regain her position in society is the crux of the story.
Samrutha, Nishan, Mohan Sharma, Nedumudi Vendu, Y.G. Mahendran, Sukumari, Nalini, Fatima Babu and many others act in the film. Madhu Ambat is the cinematographer while P.M. Sundaram is the music director.
