Mani Ratnam to be honoured at Venice film fest

When it comes to Mani Ratnam there is no need for introduction. One of the reputed directors in Indian cinema Mani Ratnam will be honored with the ' Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award' during the Venice Film Festival which is to be to be held in September. This was announced by the Venice Film Festival director Marco Muller at Cannes, just before the launch of Mani Ratnam's forthcoming Raavan (Raavanan in Tamil and Villan in Telugu).

Former awardees include Takeshi Kitano, Abbas Kiarostami, Agnes Warda and Sylvester Stallone. Marco Muller heaped praises on Mani Ratnam saying he is one of the greatest innovators in contemporary Indian cinema. It was Mani Ratnam who introduced the auteur concept to contemporary Bollywood. Muller further added that we are very proud to honor the work of the great Indian director Mani Ratnam.
Raavan's promotion at the festival was attended by the Mani Ratnam, A.R. Rahman and leading stars of the film Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram. Both Hindi and Tamil versions will be screened at Venice Film Festival.
