'Kuselan' losses to be compensated
Nov 20, 2008 IANSPyramid Saimira has reimbursed the losses of the theatre owners who directly screened the Rajnikant starrer, said a press statement.
The move comes a week after Exhibitors' Association directed its members to boycott the films of the production houses of Pyramid Saimira and Kavithalaya, for not paying up the compensation. The films they planned to boycott were Arjun-starrer "Thiruvannamalai", produced by Kavithalaya, and Pyramid Saimira's "Naan Kadavul".
The theatre owners and the distributors of "Kuselan" for South Arcot, Chengalpet have mutually agreed to solve the issue amicably. However, theatre owners of North Arcot, Coimbatore, Tiruchy, Thirunelveli did not reach an agreement with the Distributors Association and hence the process of reimbursement amount has been delayed.
The company has suffered tremendous loss from the movie "Kuselan", but doesn't hold anyone responsible for it.
Although there is no clause in the agreement calling for reimbursement of the losses, the production house has agreed to the plea of the distributors and theatre owners to give Rs.10,050,000 as their contribution along with Rs.50 million given by the producers.
Made at a cost of Rs.650 million, "Kuselan", disappointed Rajnikant fans when released in October. It has not recovered even 50 percent of its production costs.
