Kamal readying to launch 'Marmayogi'

Kamal Haasan, who has come to be hailed as "Ulaganayagan" (world leader) by his fans after his "Dasavatharam", is getting ready to launch his next film "Marmayogi", a historical action thriller. It will be the biggest ever film scripted and directed by Kamal himself.

Kamal is seen in public these days with a dark black beard. This has aroused curiosity and the media has started to delve deep into the project.

It is gathered that "Marmayogi" is a historical story dating back to the 7th century. During the period the land is under a dynastic rule which comes under the attack of a vengeful queen belonging to a different dynasty who wants to wipe out every member of the royal family. In the fierce battle, all but a five-year-old boy from this family are killed. The loyal military commander turns a rebel against the queen and wages relentless war on the marauding army to restore the kingdom to the boy who is the only surviving heir to the throne.

Kamal dons the role of Marmayogi (mystic) while Hema Malini plays the villainous queen. Hema Malini and Asin have already singed up. There will be one more female lead character. Padmapriya has been approached and she has given her nod, it is said.

The budget of the film is estimated to be over Rs.150 crore, the highest for any Indian film so far. Pyramid Saimira and Rajkamal Pictures have collaborated with Walt Disney to produce the film.

It is said "Marmayogi" will be of Hollywood standards like Russell Crowe-starrer "Gladiator" and "Brave Heart" made by Mel Gibson.

The film will be shot in Rajasthan and Switzerland.

A.R. Rahman will compose the music and also do background score.

It is left to Kamal to announce the date and venue of the launch of the project.
