Gnanavel Raja to buy 'Atta katthi' and release it

Producer Gnanavel Raja will buy the film ‘Atta Kathi’ and release it. He announced this as he came out after a special screening of the film.


The film, due to be released on Aug.15 “is impressive and will strike a chord in the hearts of the viewers,” he told mediapersons.


He commended the debutant director Pa. Ranjith, who has worked under director Venkat Prabhu, and said the film is close to reality and it does not look like one made by a novice. He decided to release it under his Studio Green banner.


When pointed out that the film does not have big stars, Gnanavel Raja said the kind of subject dealt with in ‘Atta Katthi’ does not require big stars. Issues one normally faced in day-to-day life are narrated in a lighter vein. That helps the script gratly. He said he sees no star value in such a story but will work at the BO.


Gnanavel Raja said he thoroughly enjoyed the songs set to music by Santosh Narayanan, who is also debutant. “I never felt that I was listening to a debut ant’s work.”


New face Dinesh plays the lead role in ‘Atta Katthi’ set in the period before the mobile phones came into use in the year 2000. People with confidence that is intended to impress are called ‘Atta Katthi’. North Tamil Nadu is known for such persons.


In one scene, Dinesh, who considers himself a hero, alights a crowded bus stylishly and travels footboard. When the bus is negotiating a curve, he gets thrown off the bus, rolls down the road and brushes against a thorny plant by the roadside sustaining bleeding injuries. Actor Karthi had stated that the film made him nostalgic bringing back memories of his school days when his father forced him to travel by bus to get exposure to life.



The story narrates the incidents that take place in the three phases of the hero’s life. So, there are three heroines _ Nandita, Aiswarya Shali and Shobi. Nandita plays the lead as a plus-two student. The film has been shot in Chennai and its suburbs.
