Comedian Karunas gets big break

Comedian Karunas will soon be seen as the hero in a film titled "Dindukal Sarathy".

With this Karunas joins the ranks of comedians, including Vadivelu and Vivek, who have done films playing the lead characters. Santhanam and Ganja Karuppu were recently introduced by director-producer Shankar as the protagonists in "Arai En 305-il Kadavul".

"Dindukal Sarathy" is the Tamil remake of Malayalam writer-director-actor Srinivasan's one of the best movies titled "Vadakku Nokki Yanthiram".

In an interview Karunas says the director felt he fitted the role well and hence approached him. Even in the original Malayalam version, Srinivasan, a comedian himself, played the lead role.

The story revolves around an ordinary man who marries a beautiful girl and the changes that the marriage brings about in his life.

Karthika from Mollywood, who acted in "Nam Nadu", has agreed to play opposite Karunas. Simran and Namitha are said to have turned down the role because of their preoccupations.

M.S. Bhaskar, Pawan, Shanmuga Rajan and others play important roles. Dhina scores the music.

The shooting of the film, directed by Siva Shanmugam, is in progress.

Siva Shanmugam earlier directed "Thagappansamy".
