CM hails Rajini as third Sivaji

June 25 was a day of celebration for the "Chandramukhi" team as the Sivaji Productions' blockbuster completed 804 days in a Chennai theatre (Shanthi) breaking the 54-year-old previous record of 770-day-run of Thyagaraja Bhagavathar's "Haridas".


A glitzy function was got up jointly by the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council and Sivaji Productions at Kamaraj Arangam to mark the occasion. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was the guest of honor who presented Rajinikanth, the hero, a sword on behalf of the organizers of the function. Producer's Council president Rama Narayanan presided.


Speaking at the function, Mr. Karunanidhi praised Rajinikanth (real name: Sivaji Rao) and said he is the third 'Sivaji' after Chatrapathi Sivaji and thespian Sivaji Ganesan who found a place in the country's history.


The Chief Minister said he had seen "Chandramukhi" just before coming to the function and he was happy that the function marked the film's 804-day run and 'remove the zero, it is 84" which is his age.


Mr. Karunanidhi also presented mementoes to director P. Vasu, Prabhu, Vadivelu, Vijayakumar, Nasser, Vineeth,T.P.Gajendran, Manobala, Thyagu, Madanbap, actress Sheela and music director Vidyasagar. Technicians, distributors and theatre owners also received trophies from the Chief Minister.


Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Director K. Balachander, Film Chamber president KRG, P. Vasu and A.V.M. Saravanan spoke. Mr. Saravanan made a pointed reference to the phenomenal success of "Chandramukhi" and said the 804-day-run record was incredible in these days when the film industry is dogged by several problems, especially the growing video piracy.


Prominent among those who were present were Sivaji Ganesan's wife Kamalamma, actress Sridevi and her daughter, Rajini's family,including wife Latha, daughters Aishwarya and Soundharya, son-in-law Dhanush, Thota Tharani and Ministers Arcot
