'Chennai-28' dedicated to World Cup Cricket

Veteran music composer and director Gangai Amaran's son, Venkat Prabu, who himself is a singer-actor, has tried his hand at direction too. The first film directed by him is titled "Chennai-600 028" and the producers are S.P.B. Charan and J.K Saravana (Capital Film Works).

The director plans to release the film during the World Cup Cricket tournament as the story of the film is about boys, who play cricket on roadsides. A local Corporation maidan is their ground. They play at night times and the story depicts their one-year life during which they experience romance, competitions, struggles, disappointments and treachery. The story deals with the real incidents that occurred in the Mandaveli- Raja Annamalaipuram area, according to those associated with the film.

Why the film has been titled "Chennai-600 028"? Venkat Prabhu says a resident of this area, whom he has known since childhood, has strongly suggested this name and he has settled for it. (600 028 is the pin code of the area).

In this film, Venkat Prabhu has introduced as many as 28 new faces. Dev plays the hero and Mumbai-based model Christin makes her debut as a heroine in the film. Popular director Agathiyan's daughter Vijayalakshmi also makes her debut in an important role.

Shiva, Nithin Sathya, Aravind Akash, Jai, Premji, Ajairaj, Vishal, Prasanna, Karthik, Ranjith, Ilavarasu and Sampath are the other important characters.

Venkat Prabhu has had a brief stint in film-making in London. For him, directing a film with 28 new comers is very challenging, he says.

Speaking at the audio release function recently, Yuvan Shankar Raja, who scored the music for the film, said "Chennai-600 028" has received greater appreciation than all other films for which he had provided music.

Venkat Prabhu said "Chennai-600 028" is a wholesome entertainer with no messages whatsoever. Moreover, it is not the hero-heroine subject, he asserted.

Music would be the highlight of the film and there are in all nine songs. A song written by Vaali especially for the World Cup Cricket tournament is presented in the film. Along with Yuvan Shankar Raja, two Singapore rap singers have sung this song. Yuvan himself has written a song and sung it.
