8,000 Vijay fans attend 'Pokkiri' jubilee

Vijay's blockbuster "Pokkiri" is still a rage even after a 175-day run. Its silver jubilee was celebrated with great fanfare at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

Kamal Haasan, who was the chief guest, presented mementoes to the leading members of the crew and cast of the film.. Speaking at the function, Kamal praised Vijay for his hard work and dedication which, he said, contributed to his becoming a big star.

The presence of nearly 8,000 Vijay fans made the occasion special and memorable. They had come for the bash by chartered buses from all over the State.

The guests included Dharani, Parthiban, Abhirami Ramanathan, Ramesh Babu, AVM Balasubramanium, Nasser, Prakash Raj, K.S. Ravi Kumar, Kalaipuli Shekaran, Sneha, Jeyam Ravi, Sibi Raj, Lakshmi Rai, Brinda Parekh, Udhayanidhi and his wife Krithiga.

The gathering which filled the stadium was entertained with songs by Srikant Deva and his troupe and dances by Namitha, Kiran, Tejash/ree, Chaya Singh and Malavika. All the songs and dances are from "Pokkiri".

The highlight was a group of physically challenged young dancers gave a performance along with dance master-actor-director Raghavendra Lawrence and Vijay himself. An album titled 'Madhuram' sung by Vijay's mother, Shoba Chandrasekhar, was released by K. Balachander and received by P. Susheela.
