Sreenivasan gets ready with two offbeat ventures
Dec 20, 2006 NRAvira Rebecca, who is a fine-arts graduate and a product of Southern Film Institute, had made some documentaries and short films earlier. He had also made a one-hour film An Unfinished Movie. For his maiden feature film Thakarachenda, he bases the script on a real incident and takes us into the lives of the downtrodden and the exploited. It was after hearing the whole screenplay that Sreenivasan, who got interested in the story and the director too, gave the nod. The film is now in the final stage of production and Avira Rebecca is busy doing post-production activities in the Chitranjali Studios in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Sound Machine, a short film by Kozhikode-based Suveeran, is an adaptation of the short story of the same name written by Roald Dahl. In the film, Sreenivasan plays C.V. Das, a scientist who is obsessed with nature's inaudible sounds. Sreenivasan was not there in the picture when the film was being thought about. Suveeran and 199 of his friends were raising funds by pooling Rs.1000 each. And when Sreenivasan came to inaugurate the fund raising programme, he got interested in it and contributed Rs.1000 himself and offered to act in the film without taking any remuneration or even asking for his transportation expenses or any other expenses. And it was thus that the film was realized. There is no doubt that the actor-director-scenarist is an asset to the Malayalam film industry.
