'Mahasamudram' tops Onam releases

Kochi, Sep 6 (IANS) It is Onam time and all major films have made it to the theatre. This list reflects the festive mood in the Malayalam film industry.

The top five Malayalam films are:

1. "Mahasamudram" - Top Malayalam actor Mohanlal's Onam offering for his fans sees him playing a fisherman for the first time. Directed by S. Janardhanan, the film may not have gone down well with critics, but that has not stopped it from capturing the top spot on the list.

2. "Don" - Actor Dileep's long-time wish to work with director Shaji Kailas has come true with this film. Now it remains to be seen whether they can create magic at the box office and get the producer's cash register jingling.

3. "Classmates" - Director Lal Jose brings together a bunch of youngsters -- Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Indrajith and others in a novel campus film.

4. "Keerthi Chakra" - This Mohanlal starrer may have moved to smaller theatres, but the audiences are still queuing up at the ticket counters.

5. "Bhargavacharitham Moonam Khandam" - Actor Mammootty's paring with writer-actor Sreenivasan may not have got the desired results, but that does not stop it from being on this list.
