Gun-toting Gopi puts 'Bharathchandran IPS' on top
Aug 20, 2005 Paresh C. Palicha, Aug 20It has given hope to denizens of the Malayalam film industry that there will be life beyond the times of Mammootty and Mohanlal.
1. "Bharathchandran IPS": Director Renji Panikar has revived the fortunes of Suresh Gopi. The actor had gone into hibernation for four long years. Now he is back with a bang as a gun-toting cop to clean up society - the role that had made him a superstar in his prime.
2. "Raapakal": Mammootty plays the role of a cook. The ageing actor reinvents himself with every new film. Veteran director Kamal has intelligently given him a softer character to woo the family audience to the theatres.
3. "Pandipada": This film did not achieve the success that Dileep may have expected. But the Rafi-Mecartin venture has proved that the actor is still a force to reckon with.
4. "Udayon": Mohanlal's bad phase continues. Much was expected from this film by veteran director Bhadran but his efforts to rejuvenate the actor's career seem to have been wasted. This film was expected to be on the top for at least four to five weeks but has slipped down to fourth place in the first fortnight itself.
5. "Ben Johnson": A comparatively small film starring Kalabhavan Mani, it is still doing well at the box-office. The success has brought director Anil C. Menon into the limelight. Now actors like Mammootty and Suresh Gopi are willing to work with him.
