Spate of remakes to spice up southern screens

angalore, April 17 (IANS) Remakes are the flavour of the season down south with most directors trying to cash in on the success of old or recent hits.

The list includes two Tamil films being remade in Kannada and a Telugu version of a Kannada film. But foremost among the flurry of remakes is the Kannada version of the Tamil hit "Aranmanai Kili", which was directed by Raj Kiran.

Sai Prakash - director of the hugely successful "Anna Thangi" - wields the megaphone for the yet-to-be-titled film starring 'Crazy Star' Ravichandran and Tamil actress Namitha. The film is to be produced by Bala Muttayya.

Ravichandran is also set to be the hero of "Oda Huttidavalu", a remake of Tamil director Cheran's first directorial venture "Porkalam". Sai Prakash will direct the Kannada version.

Radhika and Rakshitha are the two heroines of "Oda Huttidavalu" and Tamil actress Mallika plays Ravichandran's sister in the film.

Director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar's "Amruthadhaare", which has just completed 200 days in Bangalore, is being remade in Telugu.

Ramya, who reached the peak of her popularity with "Amruthadhaare", is shooting for the film in Hyderabad.

The sequences of "Amruthadhaare" featuring Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan will be retained in the Telugu remake along with important scenes of Ramya and Dhyan.

Jayasudha, Dharmavarapu Subramanyam and other leading Telugu actors have been roped in for the remake.

This is Ramya's second Telugu venture after "Abhimanyu", which came three years ago.
