Screening of Tamil films resumes in Karnataka

Apr 21, 2008 NR

Bangalore, April 21 (IANS) Screening of Tamil films resumed in Karnataka after over two weeks of blockade in the wake of a water row between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

More than 20 of the 100-odd theatres in Bangalore screen Tamil films in view of the large Tamil population in the city.

"Santhosh Subramaniam" featuring Jeyam Ravi and Genelia has been released in a few theatres in Bangalore last weekend to a lukewarm response. The film has turned out to be a big hit in Tamil Nadu, but has failed to get a good response here. Trade pundits say one reason may be that it is a remake of Telugu film "Bommarillu", which had a successful run in Bangalore two years ago.

The resumption of screening has been on a low key without any advertisements in newspapers or on TV channels. There are no huge posters at the theatres either, apparently not to arouse protests again by pro-Kannada activists.
