Rains make it a poor fortnight for Kannada films

Bangalore, Aug 9 (IANS) Heavy rains affected collections of Kannada films in the last fortnight. None of the releases promises a long run. But earlier hits continue to do well.

Here are the top five Kannada films:

"Akash": The rains have affected the collections of this film, but it has completed 100 days in many centres. Puneet Raj Kumar's charisma has been responsible for the film's success.

"Gauramma": The film has completed eight weeks in all the theatres where it was released, but the rains in the past two weeks have had a dampening effect on the collections. This Upendra-Ramya starrer, directed by Naganna, is a remake of the Telugu hit "Nuvvu Naaku Nachchaav."

"Shastri": The film has completed 50 days. The collections have dropped because of the rains and also because the action-oriented film has exhausted its potential in the urban areas. But the film's huge popularity in the initial weeks has placed Darshan as the most popular among the young heroes in Kannada cinema.

"Aaptha Mithra": The film is on the threshold of completing a year. It has swept all the popular awards. There are a number of holidays in the third week of August that can carry the film for another two weeks.

"Siddhu": The film starring Murali and directed by Mahesh Sukhadhare did open well, but the rains have contributed to a fall in collections. The film would have achieved a better success had it been released earlier.
