Bollywood dancer Rachana Mourya who has been seen in many Albums and films in various languages says that she is no more an item girl and she has been getting good characters in many South Indian films.

Rachana Mourya who was in Bangalore to participate in an item song for the Kannada film Salute produced and directed by lead actor B.C.Patil says that she has been busy working in all the South Indian language films now. "I am not embarrassed to be part of a film in just an item song. And when I do an item number, the producer would certainly expect me to look sexy. I have to wear skimpy cloths, go wet in rains and dance with some naughty and raunchy movements," says Rachana Mourya who made a debut in Kannada film industry with Uppi Dada M.B.B.S.

Wearing a black tight outfit which left lot of space for the skin show, Rachana danced to the peppy song with raunchy movements. The song also featured the film's hero Patil and many dancers. Patil who plays a cop, is disguised as a layman and searching for criminals and Rachana Mourya who looked stunning in the song picturisation spoke to media persons later. The song was picturised at Fusion Lounge in Brigade Road.

Rachana Mourya has so far acted in fourteen Kannada films, the latest being Salute which deals with a Policeman turning into politician. She was seen in the recent hit film Junglee directed by Soori which had Vijay and Andrita Ray in the lead.

"Don't call me just as an item girl any more. I am acting in many films in serious and significant roles. When I am doing important characters in the film and also want to do item numbers, how can you single me out just as an item song girl," asked Rachana Mourya who did item numbers like Deedar De and Aashiq Banaya remix with Himesh Reshamiya. She has worked for many Video albums earlier.

"Even many leading stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan agree to work in one song sequence in some films. Will you call them as item dance artists in those films. Item songs are basically planned as added attractions. Artists like me who work in item songs have to put in lot of efforts. We would participate in rehearsals to learn the steps, we go to gym to put our body into shape like any other heroine and select the best of costumes and jewellery to look attractive. Our work is as important as that of the heroine. Why item song artists should be discriminated?" she asked.

"I am told that B.C.Patil saab wanted me to be cast as a heroine. But my manager who was contacted has misguided him and told him that I would only work for song item numbers. I have really lost out a good opportunity to work in a good role in this film. I am happy that I am working in an item number. I am presently working in a Telugu film Mithrudu in a significant role which has top star Balakrishna sir in the lead. I am also working in a new Tamil film with Jeeva in which I am playing a role which is almost equal to that of the film's heroine. I think I will be a heroine in a film within a few months. But I would continue to be an item song artist even after I become a heroine," she says.
