'Mungaru Male' on its way to making a record
May 18, 2007 R.G. VijayasarathyThe top five Kannada films are:
1. "Mungaru Male" - Every week the film's collections estimates have to be revised because there is no drop at all. It is expected to do the business of Rs.250 million in the state. The film's hero Ganesh has already become a youth icon.
2. "Duniya" - The film will be completing 100 days in a few weeks. For debutant director Soori, it has been a fantastic run. There has been a drop in collections in the interiors, but the movie is expected to earn Rs.80 million.
3. "Masti" - The Upendra-starrer has opened well, but the collections have been going down. The film is doing well in Bangalore and Mysore but not so good in the other major centres. The film's main strength is the picturisation of songs and fight scenes.
4. "Pallakki" - It was an eagerly awaited film and got a good opening but it has not been able to sustain its appeal. The film's second half has fallen flat with the majority of the audience. But, considering the cost of production, the producer may break even or even make some small profits.
5. "Arasu" - Director Mahesh Babu's creations have completed 50 days and the collections at B and C Centres are less than expected. But, despite stiff competition from "Mungaru Male", this Puneet Rajkumar film has been able to survive.
