Kannada film 'My Autograph' slow but steady winner
Apr 4, 2006 R.G. VijayasarathyThe top five Kannada films are:
1. "My Autograph" - The film did not have a great opening, but has done extraordinarily well in the weeks following its release. It is expected to do even better in the coming months.
2. "Hatavadi" - The film's pre-festival release denied it the kind of audiences that theatres see in the days after Ugadi. Still, it has done remarkably well and may prove to be a big success in the summer when secondary school students will throng the theatre after completing their examinations.
3 "Anna Thangi" - The film continues to be a money-spinner in B and C centres. It has already completed 100 days run at more than 16 centres and the box office collections have crossed Rs.100 million in the state.
4. "Suntaragaali" - This Darshan-starrer directed by Sadhu Kokila is expected to complete 50 days in some major centres, including Bangalore and Mysore. The distributors at most of the centres, including Kolar, Tumkur and Mandya, are reaping profits.
5. "Ashoka" - The film was released in the midst of examinations and cricket matches, but still earned a profit of approximately Rs.8 million throughout the state in the first week.
The film was made on a budget of Rs.20 million and it is expected to be either a break-even or a profit-making venture.
