Kannada film industry shut for a day over Hogenekkal row

Bangalore, April 4 (IANS) Leading Kannada film actors, directors, producers, singers and technicians staged a seven-hour dharna (sit-in protest) here Friday to protest against Tamil Nadu's plans for a water supply project at Hogenekkal waterfalls on the border between two states.
The protest, organised by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, began at 10 a.m. in front of the Town Hall in the heart of the city and ended at 5 p.m. All film activity was stopped for the day.
Parvathamma, producer and widow of Kannada superstar Rajkumar, and leading actors Upendra, Ravichandran, Tara, Ramya and director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar took part in the protest and vowed to protect Karnataka's interests.
