Kamalini's first passion is the theatre
Jun 16, 2009 RGVAfter the press meet, she shared some of insights on films and theatre. She says the theatre still remained her first love. Kamalini says she has a great passion for the theatre and she came to Mumbai from Kolkotta for a course in Theatre.
"I still want to be part of a theatre, but now it is not been possible. I was busy staging plays in Kolkota in my original name Roshni. After coming to Mumbai, I was also taking up some modelling assignments when I got an opportunity to work with Phir Milenge directed by Actress Revathy. The film also had big stars like Salman Khan, Abhishekh Bachchan and Shilpa Shetty working for it." Kamalini played the role of Shilpa Shetty's younger sister.
"After working in my first Hind film, I got a break in South Indian films where I was able to work with great artists like Kamal Hassan in Tamil film Vettaiyaadu Vizhaiyaadu. I also worked with Telugu Super star Pawan Kalyan in Jalsa says Kamalini."
Kamalini got a big break in South when she worked with director Shekhar Kammula in the film Anand. Later she worked with the same director in Godavari which was also appreciated. Then she worked in a series of Tamil and Telugu films which showcased her talents.
After working in around 20 films in all the South Indian languages, now Kamalini Mukherjee is all set to work in another Hindi film which will be the remake of Telugu Hit Gamyam. The film will be launched this year. Sanjay Khan has already agreed to do an important role in this film.
"I am happy that my debut Kannada film has turned out to be a hit. I was supposed to do Kannada film earlier with Ravichandran sir. I was supposed to do the Kannada remake of Telugu Hit Lakshmi with Ravichandran. Even the dates were finalised, but some how the project did not take off. Talks were also on about another film with Shivaraj Kumar. But Savaari happened even while I was discussing some other Kannada projects. I am happy for the success of the film. It is also significant I had played the same role in the original Telugu film Gamyam and its Tamil remake version later. I was part of the Kannada film which has turned out to be a hit. Now, I am also working in the Hindi version of the same film," says Kamalini Mukherjee.
Kamalini Mukherjee says that she is still very fussy about roles, and does not like to accept altu faltu roles that come her way. "Frankly there are more number of films that I have rejected than I have accepted. I am now in a position to reject the roles," says Kamalini who wants to portray glamorous roles.
"I really want to play glamorous roles in films. But what I am getting is plain jane characters. I did such a role in Shekhara Kammula's 'Anand' and 'Godavari'. I am getting the same type of roles, because both these films were successful. I only hope that Kannada films will show my glamour side," says Kamalini with a chuckle.
