'Jogi' still No. 1 Kannada film
Nov 8, 2005 R.G. Vijayasarathy, Nov 8The top five Kannada films are:
1."Jogi": Celebrations to mark the 100th day of the film will be held on Nov 27. In terms of the ratio of the cost of production to box-office returns, the film's success may well be an Indian cinema record. The collections are expected to cross the Rs.60-million mark in Bangalore alone.
2."Amrutha Dhaare": Though the film was perceived in the trade circles as a city film, it is doing surprisingly well in northern Karnataka and areas where normally only action films have a good run. Earlier, producer-director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar was expected only to recover his cost, but now it is certain he will make good profits.
3."Deadly Soma": The film has completed eight weeks. It is doing well also in the B and C centres. The film's hero Audithya is now being seen as a charismatic star.
4. "Swamy": The film's producer has made money because of its pre-release sales. The collections at the theatres have not been so encouraging. It is a setback for the film's hero Darshan, earlier considered a lucky mascot.
5. "Shambhu": This latest Murali-starrer, directed by young Dwarki, has not met expectations. It figures in the list only because the collections of other films have been disappointing in the last fortnight.
