I'm only trying to solve my problems: Shruthi
May 25, 2009 RGVSo many leaders from various political parties including BJP have been seeking Shruthi's resignation and are also urging the BJP President Sadananda Gowda to remove her from the party. Gowda had assured the protesting women that he would take suitable action after the election results. Now, the demand for Shruthi's removal has escalated.
Shruthi spoke to Nowrunning.com
to present her version of the whole controversy.
Eversince you had applied for divorce in the family court, there has been some disquieting voices in your party which are demanding your resignation from the Chairperson of the Women and Child Welfare Board. A women leaders delegation has met your party President Sadananda Gowda demanding that you be sacked immediately from the party? Or you worried about these developments?
For your information many women who are raising objections against my decision to seek divorce are all from other political parties raged against the BJP. I don't think any recognizable leader from BJP has sought my resignation or have met the party leaders to complain against me. I have always been loyal to the party ever since I took the membership of the party. I have extensively campaigned for the BJP in the last Assembly elections and the recently held Lok Sabha elections which received a huge response from the people. And the party has been successful in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. This has deterred the women leaders of other political parties.
Even now I want to make one thing very clear. I am prepared to abide by any decision taken by my party seniors. If the party BJP decides to remove me from the post, I am prepared to resign my post immediately. I don't want to create any embarrassment to the party by insisting on continuing in my post.
Many leaders from your party are also reported to be unhappy not only because of your decision to divorce, but to remarry Chakravarthy who is already married. I am told Ms. Pramila Nesargi who headed the Women and Child welfare board earlier is displeased with the statements you have made after filing for divorce papers?
I really do not know about any of the BJP leader coming out openly and criticizing me. Many Party leaders including the state party Chief Sadananda Gowda have spoken to me and have never indicated that they are unhappy with my decision. I do not think I have embarrassed the party by deciding to file this divorce petition.
Don't you see any contradiction in your decision to remarry an already married Journalist turned film director Chakravarthy when you are heading the Women and Child welfare board. Are you not spoiling the family life of Chakravarthy and hurting the interests of his wife and two children in the process?
No, as much as I have faced problems in my personal life, even Chakravarthy says that he is facing problems. I had to silently bear the burden of a failed marriage for eight years. I have waited patiently to see some improvement in my married life. But that did not happen. I think it would be better for me and Mahendar to separate now. Similar is the case of Chakravarthy and his family.
Do you think that there has been an orchestrated campaign against you mainly because you were a successful actress who is now making a big mark in the political segment?
I am proud of my achievements in the film industry. I don't think I would have achieved so much in the industry without the help of S.Mahendar. I have a great respect for Mahendar even now. But that does not mean that I should continue a relationship with Mahendar despite many problems. This is my personal decision and every matured person should respect my personal decision. If some people want to criticize me only because I was a successful actress and a politician, I can not really help. I can also tell that it would be a win win situation for all of us, if things go the way as I have desired. And I have filed the petition in court to seek a redressal for some unhappy things that concerned my personal life.
You have not yet revealed the reasons of your dissatisfaction with Mahendar. You have adduced some reasons in your court petition that alleges Mahendar's reluctance to take care of the child and his failure to take responsibilities to handle family affairs. Do you have any personal reasons as to why you went to the extent of taking an extreme step of filing a divorce after enjoying eleven years of successful married life?
I have already said that the marriage was facing problems from the last eight years. And I would not like to reveal the reasons to the public because it relates to my personal life. I don't want my fans or others to know anything concerned with my personal life. I would like to keep all sufferings to my self and would like to be remembered as an actress who struck an emotional chord with the audience.
