Film industry crisis on the point of no return
Oct 7, 2006 RGVThe meeting called by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, the October 5th did not take place because of the absence of Kannada film producers and a solution to the present crisis in the film industry appears to be reaching a dead end. But the KFCC President H.D.Gangaraj had not lost hope and said that the producers have agreed to attend the meeting on October 11.
However there were lot of fire works between the producers belonging to the Kannada Film Producers Association and the producers who are now aligning with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce.
It looked like that there are serious differences between the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce and the Kannada Film Producers Association.
The discontent within the Kannada film Producers did not show any signs of lessening as the cine workers and leading film artists showed a greater sense of unity among them.
The leading stars and other artists of the Kannada film industry are in angry mood. They have come out openly against the producers for needling in their affairs and publicly making unnecessary and unsubstantiated charges against them.
Mr.Govindoo, Vice President of the KFCC was however critical of a few senior producers who are playing a game to suit their personal interests. "Many producers feel that some producers like Sandesh Nagaraj, K.C.N.Kumar, K.Manju and Munirathna have formed a coterie and they are calling the shots".
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce is against the dubbing culture and we are prepared to fight against introduction of dubbing culture" he added.
One positive outcome of the meeting of the Kannada Film Producers Association held on Thursday evening was that the permission was granted to the film "73, Shanthi Nivasa" starring Sudeep and produced by his father Sarovar Sanjeev.
In case of other films for which the preparations have already been made, it has been decided to scrutinize their records and accord the permission.
The producers meeting had also decided to invite actor Sreenivasa Murthy who had openly criticized the producers for stopping the production activities of new films and encouraging the dubbing culture.
The producers association which had boycotted the meeting called by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce had its own meeting around the same time. The KFCC meeting was however attended by the representatives of the cine workers, producer's wing of the KFCC, Kannada film directors association and the artists association.
