Film chamber clears non Kannada film titles
May 24, 2009 RGVThe Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce had so far adopted a very rigid stand on the titles of Kannada films and was not clearing any film title in non Kannada language. Many Kannada films had to change their titles in the last minute because they were not cleared by the film chamber. Ms. Jayamala, the President of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce was firm in her view that non Kannada titles to Kannada films is totally unacceptable. But recently two non Kannada titles for Kannada films "Salute' and "Prem Kahani' have been cleared.
Explaining the reasons for clearing the titles to these two films, Thomas D'Souza, Senior Vice President of the KFCC said that the two non Kanada titles for Salute and Prem Kahani were cleared only becuse alternative tiles in Kannada were not available. Salute is the story of a Police officer and the title was very apt. Chandru, the director of Prem Kahani explained us the reasons for selecting the title and we found that his arguement had some validity. That is the reason why we cleared these titles' said Thomas D Souza.
Speaking to Nowrunning.com, Prem Kahani director Chandru said that he had registed the title in July 2007, much before the KFCC had brought in the law preventing non Kannada titles to Kannada films. He said that the story of the film needed a title like Prem Kahani and even the KFCC members were convinced with his argument.
There are many non Kannada titles which have to be cleared in the pipeline like Black, Superman and IPC Section 300 for which shootings have already been completed. It looks as if the KFCC will not be too rigid in clearing these titles.
