'Cheluvina Chiththaara' crowned best film
Sep 7, 2007 R.G. VijayasarathyThe top five Kannada films are:
1. "Cheluvina Chiththaara" - A remake of Tamil film "Kaadal", the film's collections have been increasing with each passing week. It is so far the biggest hit of the year. In some centres, the film has been able to collect even more than last year's blockbuster "Mungaru Male".
2. "Mungaru Male" - Director Yograj Bhat's entertainer is still being screened in all the major centres and has started doing well abroad too. Released last December, it is expected to complete a one-year run.
3. "Mathadu Mathadu Mallige" - Though rains and cricket posed formidable obstacles to the film in its first week, the collections have been good. The Vishnuvardhan-Suhasini-starrer, directed by Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, may prove a bigger draw in the weeks ahead.
4. "Gandana Mane" - The film had a disappointing opening, but the collections have been improving in the northern Karnataka region. The movie is not a losing proposition considering the low cost of production.
5. "Duniya" - It is now running in the interiors and the suburban theatres.
